Now being in a classroom that has no walls (we are an open school), I have to get creative on my projects because it can get pretty rowdy pretty quickly. We began with novel studies. I had 5 novels running and I needed a project that could be simple to learn because not all of the students in this group are as tech savvy as my own class. So I decided to use iMovie and create book trailers. Now all group members had to come together after reading the novel and create a trailer that summarized their book without giving too much away.<br />
<br />
I had my ITF (instructional technology facilitator) come in to help me because I had so many varying levels of tech ability.<br />

<br />
We worked and learned a lot through this first project. We also learned a lot about iMovie and we know what we would do differently when making book trailers again. Enjoy!<br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">For the igneous rocks we took chocolate chips and melted them in the crockpot. Once the chips were melted, we scooped it out onto wax paper and allowed it to cool and harden just like igneous rocks.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the sedimentary rocks we used graham crackers, then covered the graham cracker with icing, mixed in some sprinkles and added a swedish fish candy as a fossil. We repeated this process 2 more times and then stacked all of the layers together to create sedimentary rocks. </div>

Once you create them, you print, fold and glue. It is a lot of fun and easy to do. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I allowed the students to play around and create. Some created Chibi's that looked like themselves while others took a more creative approach.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We use the Chibi's for different things. We use them for storytelling on GreenScreen, use them to track our reading stamina, use them to display our work. There are many uses for Paper Chibi's. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Try them...you will like them 😃</span><br />

My students are going to be coding a rock that moves through the rock cycle. Before we could begin, I needed to teach my students what coding is and a couple of the basics.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We began with playing Simon Says. Simon Says is a great way to introduce coding. It teaches the students to follow simple commands like coding. Once we "mastered" Simon Says we moved onto The Foo's.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTS4aWydIGiU7Th33OTD10sdQBE-TB5kFUumjsKaVyx8R4AHGcKA_vp__XkPxxkdBWpYGCYKKLouKJk511zkRigScGBxLW4BY1MSXJadws8ayC2x3PNcCzrcXLJLcuQDFQFBVXw-4uCZY-/s1600/Screen+Shot+2017-04-22+at+3.16.54+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="224" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTS4aWydIGiU7Th33OTD10sdQBE-TB5kFUumjsKaVyx8R4AHGcKA_vp__XkPxxkdBWpYGCYKKLouKJk511zkRigScGBxLW4BY1MSXJadws8ayC2x3PNcCzrcXLJLcuQDFQFBVXw-4uCZY-/s320/Screen+Shot+2017-04-22+at+3.16.54+PM.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I dropped the link to The Foo's in their Google Classroom. I then let them go and they took off with it! I didn't give them any instructions and I just let them play. They caught on very quickly and were advancing through the levels faster than I could see them play. They were cheering and were just very excited about it! The excitement is what it is all about. They begged for indoor recess so they play and when we went to computer lab, the wanted nothing but The Foo's. </span><br />

We attempted to sing a song (which we needed more time on lol) and then we <strike>ate</strike> shaped the phases of the moon.<br />
<br />
I've learned that singing songs really helps the content to stick a little better. Even though we need WAY MORE practice 😏<br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The start to this journey I first had to find postcards. In my mind this was going to be a piece of cake...wrong again!! Believe it or not postcards are very hard to come by. I called 7 different stores and no postcards. Finally when I called the 8th store (which was going to be my last one) success!! So I ran to that store right after work I went in and bought 55 postcards (extras for mess ups). When I went to check out at the register the ladies looked at me like I was crazy. Once I explained they were in awe over the concept. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">When I went to school the next morning, I explained to the kids that we needed to write and mail these postcards to all the states. So we spent the week writing this postcards for morning work. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We wrote and wrote and wrote some more...</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We mailed them off and then we waited. Within the first week our 1st card came. Colorado you made us very excited!!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Postcards started coming quickly so I needed a way to display our postcards. I found this really cute US and World Maps in the Target Dollar Spot. </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Our map is filling up quickly.</span></div>

Is that a word? In our class it is. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This was our first task where we had to learn how to toggle between multiple tabs to create our Google Slides. We began our social studies unit learning about various tribes in North Carolina. Each group was assigned a tribe to become experts on. As they researched and gathered information, they had to enter it into a basic graphic organizer that was in their Google Classroom. I kept it basic because learning to be Googley can be difficult. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZmwUluKVYR2APmV3i-6Pd-TQCH07RWPpHSWrMIpKjMNa6-jWXNWJjD3-N8cEHsTve1W0JoJtqLkDTg3CAuNjR4HDUzJ3UQERGbh5GQKJ0g3Uc7ObJiPhELUw90C5SVTC2IqrXChMGVQwP/s1600/Screen+Shot+2017-04-21+at+10.21.20+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="136" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZmwUluKVYR2APmV3i-6Pd-TQCH07RWPpHSWrMIpKjMNa6-jWXNWJjD3-N8cEHsTve1W0JoJtqLkDTg3CAuNjR4HDUzJ3UQERGbh5GQKJ0g3Uc7ObJiPhELUw90C5SVTC2IqrXChMGVQwP/s400/Screen+Shot+2017-04-21+at+10.21.20+PM.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I thought that this would be an easy task, but boy was I wrong! I had to start with the basics of showing them how to toggle between tabs (without closing the tabs). Working and transferring information between four tabs is quite the task for a 10 year old. So after a day of learning to navigate... they were working away and gathering all the needed information for part 2 of our project...GreenScreen </span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Using the graphic organizer in Google allowed them to collaborate and help each other research. It was really cool to see them working together while working independently. </span><br />

Usually we start the year off with Save Fred, but because some of my 3rd graders came with me to 4th grade, I had to change things up a bit. I really wanted to focus on the engineering component when I stumbled across this awesome activity from @fourthgrstudio. It was a great way to start the year off. We had many different designs and it was great to see how much they changed from 3rd grade!<br />

I have moved grade levels (from 3rd to 4th) and we have been busy to say the least. We have had a great start to our year. We have created a TON and we've been channeling our inner singers with songs thanks to @<a href="http://teachingandsofourth.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Teachingandsofourth </a>.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I am going to be sharing/catching you up on all of the amazing work we have done since the beginning <strike>of time</strike> of 4th grade.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">We started our year off with Ignite Presentations. Have you all heard of Ignite Presentations??? Ignite Presentations in a nutshell:</span><br />
<div style="text-indent: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="text-indent: -0.38in;">* </span><span style="text-indent: -0.38in;">20

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-indent: 0in;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-indent: 0in;">These used to be made using PowerPoint...but I am a Google fan and our county is GAFE all the way. So I talked with my husband @<a href="https://twitter.com/smarkwith" target="_blank">smarkwith</a> (who is a Google Ninja by the way 😉) and he created a template using Google Slides. The cool part about it...he was able to replicate the Ignite features! </span></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-indent: 0px;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-indent: 0px;">Our first project was learning about our beautiful state of North Carolina. </span><span style="text-indent: 0px;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">My kiddos did their research, collaborated together and then created and presented their final projects. You can tell this occurred at the beginning of the year because they were all quiet and shy when presenting. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-indent: 0in;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-indent: 0in;"> Check it out. </span><br />

We were each given 90 seconds to present an app or a website that we thought were useful and that would be interesting to others. There were a TON of awesome apps/ websites shown that I want to share them with you!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT47M-iKTTAOMI-vXz4tqd4XxM0QGj7yygAdGsaCekLc-AWyoAgwkT6RgpOqWhoTrclWH3adxz5-QaGlqdqAh10g2OqlPd6EtqcSKBBQa815R1llZOW9NmZFqOXF5AKi82lLtLp1ZIkZi1/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-08-04+at+9.10.40+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="195" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT47M-iKTTAOMI-vXz4tqd4XxM0QGj7yygAdGsaCekLc-AWyoAgwkT6RgpOqWhoTrclWH3adxz5-QaGlqdqAh10g2OqlPd6EtqcSKBBQa815R1llZOW9NmZFqOXF5AKi82lLtLp1ZIkZi1/s400/Screen+Shot+2015-08-04+at+9.10.40+PM.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The winner of the Smackdown was Goosechase.com! It is a site designed for scavenger hunts. This would make a great icebreaker at the beginning of the year!<br />
<br />
Hope you find some of these useful!Mrs. Markwithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05564528844644263565noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2622998679683806845.post-21966224879862276152015-08-03T21:17:00.002-04:002015-08-03T21:17:39.448-04:00InfopicsEver heard of an inforpic???? Me either...until today.<br />
<br />
So what is an infopic you might ask?!? An infopic is a photo with text layered on top that is designed to communicate a message.<br />
<br />
At first I thought to myself this is like an infographic, but I quickly realized that it is not. An infopic is short, sweet and to the point.<br />
<br />
We watched this <a href="http://learninginhand.com/blog/2015/1/6/producing-infopics" target="_blank">video</a> which was LOADED with apps that are great for creating infopics. There were so many apps listed that I wanted to try. So what did I do??? As he was listing and describing the apps, I was quickly downloading them <strike>all</strike>...all the free ones that is.<br />
<br />
I chose to make an infopic on the PBL process we worked on today. You can see my post <a href="http://jsmarkwith.blogspot.com/2015/08/pbl-land.html" target="_blank">here</a> on the Zombie Apocalypse PBL.<br />

Today we were immersed into the world of PBL. PBL stands for Project Based Learning. PBL has many components to it and it takes some serious planning to get a project that is worth while for the kiddos. This website <a href="http://bie.org/about/what_pbl" target="_blank">PBL</a> explains that parts to PBL and what it all entails.<br />
<br />
Anyways...today we were introduced to the Zombie Apocalypse App Smash. It was a blast and I never realized how serious some people are about the Zombie Apocalypse. <br />
<br />
We had a task at hand:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitGIYitWK9BUdQN_-oYS4X36rM2tHWjQnHl8XtKwbrwZX_ORGvEtYGg2M0-9jzLcdiPnADOkBrP8pYHXmsyZkD1Ddh-6OBILBQeUro5lGEbqT0MW3gagmTHsOOyl3l-QpRx0Ilk9p7xtI_/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-08-03+at+8.39.36+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="166" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitGIYitWK9BUdQN_-oYS4X36rM2tHWjQnHl8XtKwbrwZX_ORGvEtYGg2M0-9jzLcdiPnADOkBrP8pYHXmsyZkD1Ddh-6OBILBQeUro5lGEbqT0MW3gagmTHsOOyl3l-QpRx0Ilk9p7xtI_/s320/Screen+Shot+2015-08-03+at+8.39.36+PM.png" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">James Sanders Zombie Apocalypse</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
We Zombified ourselves: <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzp3fHRUXsiq-oDy-dsEh4b1kGp-_QA4XSRSoxd1tyAfkxHc8tzoIc3tqWCmLLl1FxrRv6VjPAcasEIfULfa3ND0bOPAGUy0BK8SkpElQC7faHiybOt39br7rjK5OyV6kdkQjvrsvLgfpZ/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-08-03+at+8.37.15+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzp3fHRUXsiq-oDy-dsEh4b1kGp-_QA4XSRSoxd1tyAfkxHc8tzoIc3tqWCmLLl1FxrRv6VjPAcasEIfULfa3ND0bOPAGUy0BK8SkpElQC7faHiybOt39br7rjK5OyV6kdkQjvrsvLgfpZ/s320/Screen+Shot+2015-08-03+at+8.37.15+PM.png" width="245" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then we began creating: <a href="https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1iFzFUGbZhr5yKwUlyobWOBUzcsqqe0B0VJTB9ON5MSQ/edit#slide=id.gc4458f3d9_0_0" target="_blank">The Walking App Smashers</a> </div>

There are so many possibilities and options of Apps to Smash and you can't go wrong...which is awesome!! App Smashing is great for creating and allowing students to have different projects on the same content. This is great instead of having 25 projects using the same exact tools.<br />
<br />
Our assignment for August was to make an introduction video about ourselves that we could use on the first day of school to show to our kiddos. I used Videolicious, Pic Collage and Photo Mapo (See below for the pro's and con's of each App). This was a fun project and I am excited about the end video.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://video.videolicious.com/d3c5202a-ae4e-45bb-9fb7-8234528b5c76" target="_blank">All About Me Video Introduction</a></div>
<br />
<br />
Pro's and Con's of the Apps:<br />
<br />
<u><b>Pro's:</b> </u><br />
<b>Videolicious</b>- Easy to use, you can record yourself and show your face while talking or you can just record your voice over your pictures, and it is quick to put together your video<br />
<br />
<b>Pic Collage</b>- Simple to use and has several choices to pick from as far as fonts, backgrounds, picture arrangements<br />
<br />
<b>Photo Mapo</b>- Great to show locations of places, uses various types of maps, and you can type in an address and get the absolute location of a place<br />
<br />
<br />
<b><u>Con's:</u> </b><br />
<b>Videolicious</b>- You can only record up to 1 minute on a video<br />
<br />
<b>Pic Collage</b>- Too many images can overwhelm the collage (especially with younger kiddos)<br />
<br />
<b>Photo Mapo</b>- You can only insert one image onto your mapMrs. Markwithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05564528844644263565noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2622998679683806845.post-37849294083745310912015-06-18T13:03:00.003-04:002015-06-18T13:07:27.772-04:00TPACK and SAMR- an overview<span style="font-family: inherit;">This week part of our focus was on TPACK and SAMR. My team created Piktocharts to explain the importance and uses of TPACK and SAMR.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHvI4fSI11Zwxtuhf_eBZylqfBpD-SgL0ytq8R-JSiY6AT5gNZSvkM5Qw-GoYRFuyzGzytLsCHcq1IGhAq2yD1LjCsjupf5yEERspqqbv0_ygRW1PDUgr_EdUxlnC7BpbvphN2byBwlRsE/s1600/TPACK.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHvI4fSI11Zwxtuhf_eBZylqfBpD-SgL0ytq8R-JSiY6AT5gNZSvkM5Qw-GoYRFuyzGzytLsCHcq1IGhAq2yD1LjCsjupf5yEERspqqbv0_ygRW1PDUgr_EdUxlnC7BpbvphN2byBwlRsE/s640/TPACK.jpeg" width="364" /></a></div>

The morning started off with receiving 20 brand spankin' new IPad Air 2's!! These Ipads are going to be used to do great things. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKGmHym3P1z8nXnn-2h68l3125l6TI95EKI8ImvKxKWGtv2fKtVDnI-5POb6EZ9KtgFqj7niCH6qJSUczQITV6z_D33JOOH9KAfbmeZj1YQBFcAbmHe_e0dVTSqwwfoscTkwN6kxChnUEW/s1600/IMG_4198.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKGmHym3P1z8nXnn-2h68l3125l6TI95EKI8ImvKxKWGtv2fKtVDnI-5POb6EZ9KtgFqj7niCH6qJSUczQITV6z_D33JOOH9KAfbmeZj1YQBFcAbmHe_e0dVTSqwwfoscTkwN6kxChnUEW/s320/IMG_4198.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Then we had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Moore from North Gaston speak about Andragogy. At first I had absolutely no idea what that was, but after listening to her I learned it is something that I already do. She put a new perspective on adult learning for me. In order for workshops to be successful, you have to have a hook and make the training beneficial to everyone you are presenting too. Otherwise, you will have this...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmLncHlrvdAYhUUfHIGE7wv76WRApvLCTSbM73vjCMU_8_XST-biKbhw-fOub3G-bSpEpZcD2VgveAw9Da7FiWdKAQTIQ0ic8Eot7W9FArBl1I7Bdp1LVPXrSVwnun53ffXD0Gu1qCEM5E/s1600/Unnamed+image.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="148" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmLncHlrvdAYhUUfHIGE7wv76WRApvLCTSbM73vjCMU_8_XST-biKbhw-fOub3G-bSpEpZcD2VgveAw9Da7FiWdKAQTIQ0ic8Eot7W9FArBl1I7Bdp1LVPXrSVwnun53ffXD0Gu1qCEM5E/s320/Unnamed+image.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We then ended the day learning the importance of TPACK and SAMR. Technology is a tool, not a learning outcome. Technology is to be used to take something that was originally impossible and make it possible. It is not a replacement for a worksheet to do the same worksheet on a Google Form. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To display our learning, my group chose to create a Piktochart. Piktochart is a great tech tool to make inforgraphics (Alot of fun and options for the kids to play around with!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPpnbnjyLWUfD1kOolYdcptGaIzUijkZtgoiHxUs8G4o6k4hZFekCdU2AGHEpd_Uh_MvM4IKBtScSV8ItAqiSPQ_erqYse3shygTaI8VsxVvNlr5haUru-Bn4ecvn59tT4hurKXAaOWuwL/s1600/TPACK.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPpnbnjyLWUfD1kOolYdcptGaIzUijkZtgoiHxUs8G4o6k4hZFekCdU2AGHEpd_Uh_MvM4IKBtScSV8ItAqiSPQ_erqYse3shygTaI8VsxVvNlr5haUru-Bn4ecvn59tT4hurKXAaOWuwL/s640/TPACK.jpeg" width="363" /></a></div>

All I have to say is AWESOME! As soon as I was <span style="font-family: inherit;">introduced to the game, I started to realize all of the potentials for this game!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;">This past year my students were really into Minecraft. When we had electronic day, my students would sit and play against each other in their worlds and I remember thinking what in the world is this Minecraft stuff?!? Then my three-year-old daughter asked me for Minecraft for her birthday and my initial response was "No Way!" Now I have a totally different outlook. I can see the benefits on so many levels.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I am really excited to bring this to my school and get my students to play a game, but on a whole level! I think I will have a greater connection with my students through Gamification.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;">Being a Pinnacle Leader for the second time around, I have a new outlook on my goals for the upcoming school year. I am learning ways to tweak projects that I have already done and ways to really enhance my teaching style. I am excited to learn new tools and tricks that I can take back to school and share with my colleagues as well as my students. I have high expectations for the upcoming school year long with many ideas that are already brewing in my mind to help my students go farther and create. I hope that I can reach my students in new ways and to make my 9th year of teaching 3rd grade refreshing and fun again!</span></div>

<br />
Our next project was created QR codes and Google Presentations.<br />
<br />
I created a template for my students using Google Presentations. Nothing fancy just a simple template.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR7xFUGvwqJ-H6q4zcokyFQ0V32AxmJdl3AXjGT3Ip4v8g4yxhmvIYqxEKM-W-oBL_E_wHfC7tfFdIJVJsvGRUWWoc0QXpBSXFLFHJsntNLhs5o2jKcGKjK5o4tgjEYxePrHoR9BKKz5zU/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-01-23+at+9.35.48+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR7xFUGvwqJ-H6q4zcokyFQ0V32AxmJdl3AXjGT3Ip4v8g4yxhmvIYqxEKM-W-oBL_E_wHfC7tfFdIJVJsvGRUWWoc0QXpBSXFLFHJsntNLhs5o2jKcGKjK5o4tgjEYxePrHoR9BKKz5zU/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-01-23+at+9.35.48+PM.png" height="175" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiproVGsd-jHZOfOYRCV9ZoV9MT04AQcenegnvIvX7XoUHmw2C7m4JjmPpUlzGpv_rt5MDY5IK5OPYVqICICJsXcY5p1GxBiQ-T8ubQWmHkXqteKGjZNGzVep90n87p2JUB1P-mNfT6w3NC/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-01-23+at+9.36.43+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiproVGsd-jHZOfOYRCV9ZoV9MT04AQcenegnvIvX7XoUHmw2C7m4JjmPpUlzGpv_rt5MDY5IK5OPYVqICICJsXcY5p1GxBiQ-T8ubQWmHkXqteKGjZNGzVep90n87p2JUB1P-mNfT6w3NC/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-01-23+at+9.36.43+PM.png" height="143" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used Google Classroom to share several documents with them which was a task teaching them to toggle between open tabs, but we made it in the end.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One document I sent my kiddos had 20 multiplication and division word problems. The students had to select a problem, take a screen shot of the problem, upload their screen shot from their Drive into their Presentation. They caught on very quickly to this process. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
They had to then go to <a href="https://www.the-qrcode-generator.com/" target="_blank">QR code generator</a> and type their answer to the word problem. They then uploaded their QR code answer to their presentation. At the bottom of their slides in the notes section, they had to explain their thinking to me. They had to tell me how they arrived at their answer as well as how they knew to multiply or divide.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Their final projects included 5 slides; a title slide, 2 multiplication problems and 2 division problems.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was a great way for students to share their thinking with me. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Check out a finished project <a href="http://goo.gl/OkcZvm" target="_blank">here</a>. </div>

Our class decided to write informational articles on planets. This tied in nicely with our solar system unit that we had just finished up. The students were to produce a newsletter that included; headings, photographs, captions, and vocabulary.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Our county is Google EVERYTHING! We have a set of 30 Chromebooks to use on our grade level and we have been learning the ins and outs of them. I wanted my students to create their newsletter in Google Docs. I went ahead and searched on Google for a Newsletter templates Google Docs and selected a newsletter template for the students to use and shared it with them using Google Classroom.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj36Yu_HXd8DK_Lrs_F8uyANj78U8QkUXLs2cufy3L66TjVrEF7V8OkJBPdjq8hjCqMfxQTd6tK4mY3_Ij_Xnw0GFDtC_LV2kE6uTnV5fo4CjhEVVk6lQ-Sp0o_5arpumwAASET1dULTKvG/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-01-23+at+9.10.43+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj36Yu_HXd8DK_Lrs_F8uyANj78U8QkUXLs2cufy3L66TjVrEF7V8OkJBPdjq8hjCqMfxQTd6tK4mY3_Ij_Xnw0GFDtC_LV2kE6uTnV5fo4CjhEVVk6lQ-Sp0o_5arpumwAASET1dULTKvG/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-01-23+at+9.10.43+PM.png" height="192" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Google Classroom is fabulous because it automatically makes a copy of the document for the student and makes a folder in my Google Drive to house all of their projects. This eliminates the hassle of the students having to make a copy of the document and sharing it back with me. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We had spent 2 weeks researching the planets using books, encyclopedias, and the internet. This is the first time my students had used the internet to research so we had to spend a lot of time talking about how to research effectively. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAqCWuem8gy0MBpRU7E6pO0FU-0JcUXxH-8K7yxEIozYZDyHz3rYQnGHfyQXUMboHQycK9RLVd9jvspZ4k7QjLqkIzy3bN9wfUOb-HjHqPbrwIlDN3y2WTjT_g3cpVhG1v9DmbC7AOe28F/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAqCWuem8gy0MBpRU7E6pO0FU-0JcUXxH-8K7yxEIozYZDyHz3rYQnGHfyQXUMboHQycK9RLVd9jvspZ4k7QjLqkIzy3bN9wfUOb-HjHqPbrwIlDN3y2WTjT_g3cpVhG1v9DmbC7AOe28F/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once we had our researched typed into the templates, the students learned how to highlight text and link it to the definition of the word. This concept took some time to master, but once they caught on they were on a roll. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Their final projects turned out pretty well for their first attempt! <a href="http://goo.gl/70SJZ6" target="_blank">Click here</a> to check out a finished newsletter about Saturn!!</div>

We made Paper Slide videos. It was so much fun. Creating them was a lot of work, but well worth it. The students had a great time working together to create their videos and can't wait to make another Paper Slide.<br />
<br />
We have been studying the Scientific Method for quite awhile now and we have done a lot of experiments using the Scientific Method. To wrap up our unit, students chose a topic to create a Paper Slide video on.<br />
<br />
First the kids created their planning boards. They worked in groups of 3 and decided what roles they would take on and assigned slides to be created. Together they planned out their slides. They focused on using 6 words or less per slide and using onomatopoeias.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6mPkIdl0vv201DzUjLgreD_L0mHCZONfwUedJ8ek-LofrQyeQWk-FIx2AskgOQnA9sckfSwFv50Q8XVZD9M0I0m8yBMcbJdrAvhEDNZsBY6C6jYwz4YRyRQckOHZJfJNsbJDOTN5V4qeA/s1600/IMG_3108.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6mPkIdl0vv201DzUjLgreD_L0mHCZONfwUedJ8ek-LofrQyeQWk-FIx2AskgOQnA9sckfSwFv50Q8XVZD9M0I0m8yBMcbJdrAvhEDNZsBY6C6jYwz4YRyRQckOHZJfJNsbJDOTN5V4qeA/s1600/IMG_3108.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrhfr0FwZhqK9FDcUpXruMVDWZqgb2A8XTHewOjpWU5PZmc-b23fKWKKRKFYplfb4u6P7OqLbYTpUktoQVq8XgFCYgXQp9URoateYO3cSO-G3Z2Oxylt7drdzpLjOnnQwudT_qzwUmaz8r/s1600/IMG_3111.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrhfr0FwZhqK9FDcUpXruMVDWZqgb2A8XTHewOjpWU5PZmc-b23fKWKKRKFYplfb4u6P7OqLbYTpUktoQVq8XgFCYgXQp9URoateYO3cSO-G3Z2Oxylt7drdzpLjOnnQwudT_qzwUmaz8r/s1600/IMG_3111.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Once the planning boards were completed, the groups worked on writing their scripts for the Slides. They wrote out their scripts and then I took the scripts and typed them up.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW7Aupb2xTpj9E5h7CCtp37zGzkroz_Hc1mdjemaD9Cy6XXGuwAPfkF_sjtJHetu75jIDS4pnmvjyK_5oSritS3WKSFPYpuF3XSv8vJKzWXxc1MriogxnWYK46DYrk8cdGm-LzTpgsTjO5/s1600/IMG_3112.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW7Aupb2xTpj9E5h7CCtp37zGzkroz_Hc1mdjemaD9Cy6XXGuwAPfkF_sjtJHetu75jIDS4pnmvjyK_5oSritS3WKSFPYpuF3XSv8vJKzWXxc1MriogxnWYK46DYrk8cdGm-LzTpgsTjO5/s1600/IMG_3112.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I worked with the videographers, showing them how to work the Flip Videos and then let them go!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am so proud of the final products. Not too bad for our first attempt!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

We learned the various features of each landform and how they are formed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_97AZ5UNeHXzYIPCh6vDKlP7AY1XnY0JsqV4IZRq2ZdWfIOZpJElULg6puo625JbIBTWUUHKoUbm_oMhKGGbYWMLNBE8xESEDHEl7PEgF3JQzkDiMCE1m91_uX3I3xHdR6exC0grFKmYD/s1600/IMG_3028.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_97AZ5UNeHXzYIPCh6vDKlP7AY1XnY0JsqV4IZRq2ZdWfIOZpJElULg6puo625JbIBTWUUHKoUbm_oMhKGGbYWMLNBE8xESEDHEl7PEgF3JQzkDiMCE1m91_uX3I3xHdR6exC0grFKmYD/s1600/IMG_3028.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Once my kiddos had a grasp of each landform, I drew 26 US Map outlines on a piece of cardboard. I hooked my projector up and taped the cardboard to my front door and traced away for about an hour.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOEAg9LVUz7RrXs_aF8HgK_MStanFSvM3v-U1dxmXv4Dh56uNyuYvJTH36OzadZeSkNU76Ji8nSJnNfGatAyyWmJ09wWpHCLQ44p9ZYvm1p-8suZP_WO9O_h-DiHIT_AxRHaFBs6SUxfpi/s1600/IMG_3032.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOEAg9LVUz7RrXs_aF8HgK_MStanFSvM3v-U1dxmXv4Dh56uNyuYvJTH36OzadZeSkNU76Ji8nSJnNfGatAyyWmJ09wWpHCLQ44p9ZYvm1p-8suZP_WO9O_h-DiHIT_AxRHaFBs6SUxfpi/s1600/IMG_3032.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Then my wonderful husband made me close to 20 pounds of salt dough. I put a large amount of salt dough in 25 bags so that each student would have their own dough to work with. The next day my students and I discussed where the various landforms were found throughout the United States and together we labeled our maps.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRnqwZwsUlSOsgWPGdRb20gIV-LbX9tJwZG_iybTqdIMmMLsXs8oAxjDAhL5R88LjBZ4DJ_hTRscuWtBXwt4KED6coUqXIwBziFRM80I3mDR7tYKAMe4PdiF0x2WtgH8uU3lVLeHfj49fx/s1600/IMG_3055.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRnqwZwsUlSOsgWPGdRb20gIV-LbX9tJwZG_iybTqdIMmMLsXs8oAxjDAhL5R88LjBZ4DJ_hTRscuWtBXwt4KED6coUqXIwBziFRM80I3mDR7tYKAMe4PdiF0x2WtgH8uU3lVLeHfj49fx/s1600/IMG_3055.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Then we molded away!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZYgLyW9V_0eKCYAwo8BvLWYr2BZnYeGQfhGSbGcPkiHHkZSzRbrhi-07Jr-lZbuX5ilO2g3pa5i-HJqIde2ApO159mwJgBOhfS0OI_00TdnH8tBUMTqKX_hFldgK7WaGZ8Nb13cYtXvB6/s1600/IMG_3059.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZYgLyW9V_0eKCYAwo8BvLWYr2BZnYeGQfhGSbGcPkiHHkZSzRbrhi-07Jr-lZbuX5ilO2g3pa5i-HJqIde2ApO159mwJgBOhfS0OI_00TdnH8tBUMTqKX_hFldgK7WaGZ8Nb13cYtXvB6/s1600/IMG_3059.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
After molding we painted and labeled each landform.<br />

We have just finished our unit on Earth History and my students had to write a persuasive essay on whether volcanoes save the earth or destroy the earth. They had to choose a side and give the facts to support their choices. The students then created a volcano to go along with their essays. I found the idea from Chrissy Beltran's <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Earth-Science-Pack-Earthquakes-Volcanoes-other-disasters" target="_blank">Teachers pay Teachers account</a>. The writing aspect to the project supported our persuasive essay unit where students had to support their side with facts. The students really enjoyed researching the good side of volcanoes and the not so good side of volcanoes. The students had difficulty picking a position to support because they understood the positive and the negative effects of volcanoes. For our fun science Friday, we are going to make a volcano that erupts so that the kiddos can see a "real" eruption! Check back here to see our volcanic eruption or check us out on Twitter @Awesomein4th! Mrs. Markwithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05564528844644263565noreply@blogger.com1
