Volcanoes...Good or bad?

We have just finished our unit on Earth History and my students had to write a persuasive essay on whether volcanoes save the earth or destroy the earth. They had to choose a side and give the facts to support their choices. The students then created a volcano to go along with their essays. I found the idea from Chrissy Beltran's Teachers pay Teachers account. The writing aspect to the project supported our persuasive essay unit where students had to support their side with facts. The students really enjoyed researching the good side of volcanoes and the not so good side of volcanoes. The students had difficulty picking a position to support because they understood the positive and the negative effects of volcanoes. For our fun science Friday, we are going to make a volcano that erupts so that the kiddos can see a "real" eruption! Check back here to see our volcanic eruption or check us out on Twitter @Awesomein4th!
